Not a Catch on Match

After I wrote Blindsided, I continued with writing the sequel and thought, well that might be it. But no. I was more than wrong. The dating scene has created more material than I ever imagined. While the dates are often painful and cringy, the humor that has resulted is immeasurable. Situations in the past that would have jarred me or brought me to tears now bring me to hysterical laughter.

For example, what is the one and only rule when first dating an online find? Do Not Ask for Money!! I met this guy on Match and we went back and forth on text and calls for a few weeks, and although he lived farther from me than I preferred, he sounded and looked nice, so I agreed to meet him. I suggested a bar/restaurant close to me to be on the safe side. In short, the date went pretty well, he paid the tab and we agreed to meet again. The next time, he asked me to meet him at a bar closer to his place, and I acquiesced. It was a great date, again, he picked up the tab, and as we were leaving I asked him where his car was parked. He replied he did not have a car. He had rode his bike. My wonder then went to how he got to the initial place we met. He replied "Uber". The chemistry and math were fighting for attention, but math was winning, and the chemistry was fading. He got on his bike, I got in my car. Two days later he texted to ask if I would like to go out again. My immediate thought was that it will be a long 40 mile ride for him on a bike! I declined gracefully saying I was busy. In his reply text he had the audacity to tell me he had now lost his job and had to move, and could I please Zelle him $800? WTF??? I could have paid for my own fish dip and fried pickles, saved $30 in gas and not been put in this ridiculous position. My reply was that he should sell his bike, get a job and a roof over his head before he decides to get back on Match again. Not a catch, and not a match. More tales to come.
